Note: Before 1752 (in Britain) the year began on March 25th (Lady Day). Dates between January 1st and March 24th were therefore at the end of the year rather than the beginning. To avoid confusion, dates in this range are marked with an asterisk e.g. 12 Feb 1696*. Such dates are sometimes seen in the form 12 Feb 1696/7.

Switzerland:

George Dormer Fawcus was born 20 Jul 1858. He died 14 Apr 1925 in Switzerland and was buried in Territet, Lake Geneva. He was 67 years old. On 28 Dec 1889, he married Alice Emma Anderson who was born 23 Apr 1856 in All Saints, Stamford, Lincoln, England. She died 06 Oct 1943 in Switzerland and was buried in Territet, Lake Geneva. She was 87 years old.

Information provided by Nicholas C Jenkins indicates that the marriage was in Romney Marsh rather than All Saints, Stamford, Lincoln:
"According to FreeBMD George Dormer Fawcus & Alice Emma Anderson were married Dec quarter 1889 in Romney Marsh vol 2a page 1917. This reference also cross refers to G D Fawcus. There is an Alice Emma Anderson who married in Gainsborough but she does cross refer to a Fawcus. The marriage of G D Fawcus to Ellen Sharples on FreeBMD is shown as March quarter 1886 in Wisbech vol 3b page 813. This cross refers to G D Fawcus too."
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who can shed light on the Fawcus (or Sharples) connection to Claybrooke Parva, where the plaque commemorating Ellen's death is located in the Church of St Peter.
